George Cosbuc National High School
Motru, a relatively young town, was built in the 1960s in the context of exploiting the coal deposits in the Oltenia mining basin. The town developed rapidly, becoming an important industrial center, which created an urgent need for quality educational institutions to support the demographic growth and professional development of its residents. In this context, the George Cosbuc National High College became a pillar of education in Motru, significantly contributing to the formation of well-prepared generations of students, many of whom have gone on to hold important positions both locally and nationally.
The school is named after George Cosbuc, an important Romanian poet and interpreter known
for his works that celebrate the beauty of Romanian traditions and landscapes. This choice reflects the school's mission to blend academic excellence with respect for national culture and values. George Cosbuc National High School is the most representative educational institution in the area, deeply rooted in the community's life, and is distinguished by a tradition of high-quality education that aligns with national values and standards.
The school meets the demands of the cultural, social, and economic environment, offering a future-oriented education to about 900 children who cross its threshold daily, from primary school, middle school, and high school. The mission of this institution is to develop students' skills and cultivate their interests by promoting democratic spirit, social and cultural identity, diversity, and tolerance. It also promotes the idea of an inclusive school that offers equal opportunities to all students, ensuring they are prepared for life in an ever-changing society.
As a result of this, George Cosbuc National High School in Motru is actively involved in a variety of school and extracurricular projects, with students eagerly participating in volunteer activities. The students are highly motivated to contribute to the well-being of their community and are particularly committed to environmental protection efforts. Through various initiatives, they engage in activities such as tree planting, recycling campaigns, and environmental education programs. These projects not only enhance their awareness of environmental issues but also cultivate a sense of responsibility and community service, making them proactive citizens dedicated to making a positive impact on the world around them.
